Anil Koppula a new father from Melbourne Australia has filed a lawsuit against the Royal Women’s Hospital alleging that witnessing his wife’s caesarean section in January 2018 led to the breakdown of his marriage and psychotic illness.
In court documents, Koppula alleges he was encouraged to observe the delivery during which he claims to have seen his wife’s internal organs and blood.
He further asserts that the hospital breached its duty of care towards him, leading to his current mental distress.
“Mr Koppula alleges that he was encouraged, or permitted, to observe the delivery, that in the course of doing so, he saw his wife’s internal organs and blood…He says that the Hospital breached a duty of care it owed to him and is liable to pay him damages,” part of the document read.
Though his wife birthed a healthy baby, Koppula claimed the hospital breached its duty of care owed to him by allowing him to watch the C-section.
In his legal claim filed several years after the birth Koppula said he is owed damages because of his alleged life-changing psychological injury.
The suit seeks 1 billion dollars in damages
The hospital denies any breach of duty of care saying Koppula did not suffer any injury because of the C section experience while in hospital.
