Matungulu Member of Parliament Stephen Mule has called for heightened accountability and professionalism from the country’s top security officials following a violent incident at PCEA Kasarani East church that disrupted a worship service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Addressing the press on Sunday, April 6, Mule emphasized the critical role of security agencies in upholding the sanctity of religious spaces, warning that failure to do so could lead to a parliamentary motion seeking the removal of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.

“I want to condemn the action and the event that has happened at PCEA Kasarani today in the strongest terms possible,” Mule stated. “We want to urge the IG, DCI, and all the other security operators that you have the responsibility to protect the church and the faithful as they worship. Kenyans have the right to worship without any disturbance.”

The MP demanded a swift investigation into the incident, urging IG Kanja to identify and name the individuals behind the goon attack. He criticized what he termed as misplaced priorities within the police leadership.

“How can you engage in politics in a rally in Nyeri and you cannot protect the faithful who have gone to worship in PCEA Kasarani?” Mule asked. “We are going to call you out early enough; you either style up, or we start a process to remove you from office as members of parliament.”

He further called for the depoliticization of the country’s security services, noting that political involvement by top officers undermines public trust and jeopardizes national peace.

“If you are in a rally in Nyeri, you should have also protected the faithful in Kasarani from attack from goons who have been paid, and we are waiting to see what action you will take. Stop politics, and we have said very clearly that we do not want politics in our security agencies,” Mule added.

Mule’s remarks come amid growing concerns about the safety of religious gatherings in the country, with calls mounting for the government to ensure that all Kenyans, regardless of their political affiliations, can worship in peace.
