Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi has moved to reassure international partners that Kenya remains a stable, democratic state rooted in strong institutions and governed by a progressive Constitution.

Speaking at the French Embassy in Nairobi during the 145th Bastille Day celebrations, Mudavadi said Kenya is firmly committed to upholding the rule of law, respecting constitutional principles, and fostering inclusive governance. The event was held at the invitation of French Ambassador to Kenya, Arnaud Suquet.

“Kenya stands on a solid constitutional foundation adopted through a national referendum with over 70% public support. This Constitution enshrines the rights of individuals, communities, and the nation as a whole,” Mudavadi said.

Addressing diplomats, investors, and foreign dignitaries, he assured Kenya’s global partners that the country remains a dependable destination for investment and cooperation.

“We are committed to creating and maintaining a stable, predictable environment where partnerships can flourish. Our bilateral and multilateral relations are built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to sustainable development,” he stated.

Mudavadi acknowledged recent challenges facing the nation, including protests on June 25 and July 7, but said they had only reinforced the government’s commitment to dialogue, legal process, and institutional integrity.

“Kenya remains a democracy that respects the right to peaceful protest as enshrined in Article 37 of the Constitution,” he said. “However, we must equally insist that these expressions of dissent remain peaceful and within the confines of the law. We do not want to see more lives lost.”

He cited the recent steps to reconstitute the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as evidence of the government’s intent to strengthen democratic systems ahead of future elections.

Reflecting on the Kenya-France relationship, Mudavadi described it as a dynamic and growing partnership. “Our cooperation spans infrastructure, energy, education, cultural exchange, regional diplomacy, and more,” he noted.

In his tribute to France, he drew parallels between the historical significance of Bastille Day and the shared democratic values between the two nations.

“As we mark this historic day, we’re reminded of the power of solidarity, the resilience of citizens, and the enduring fight for justice and freedom values that bind France and Kenya,” he said.

Mudavadi concluded by extending greetings from President William Ruto to French President Emmanuel Macron and the people of France, affirming Kenya’s commitment to deepening ties with France and other like-minded nations.
