Newly sworn-in Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia has assured a smooth and dignified transition for the outgoing Cabinet, which was appointed by his predecessor, Kawira Mwangaza.

During his first Cabinet meeting on Monday, Governor Mutuma met with the County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) and Chief Officers, assuring them that their exit would be handled without harassment as his administration prepares to appoint a new team.

The governor emphasized that he had motivated the current officeholders to ensure a seamless transition as he finalizes his new Cabinet appointments.

Impeachment Motions Withdrawn

Following Governor Mutuma’s leadership transition, the Meru County Assembly has withdrawn impeachment motions against six of Mwangaza’s Cabinet members.

During his swearing-in ceremony, Mutuma had urged Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to allow the outgoing CECMs to leave office with dignity, as per the constitutional requirement that mandates Cabinet members to vacate office once a governor exits.

Officials Previously Targeted for Impeachment

The impeachment motions had sought to remove:

  • County Secretary Dr. Kiambi Atheru
  • Ibrahim Mutwiri (Finance)
  • Thurania Ithana (Roads)
  • Benjamin Mungania (Youth and Sports)
  • Dickson Munene (Legal Affairs)

Additionally, censure motions had been tabled against:

  • Jackson Muthamia (Water)
  • Yusuf Kithure (Education)
  • Harriet Makena (Trade)

The removal motions cited gross misconduct, abuse of office, incompetence, and failure to address critical issues within their ministries. Accusations also included failure to attend County Assembly sessions, which raised concerns among residents about the county’s performance.

As Meru embarks on a new chapter under Governor Mutuma’s leadership, all eyes are on the upcoming Cabinet appointments that will shape the county’s governance.
