In a firm push to uphold public health and environmental standards, Nairobi County has ordered the closure of The Orchid Lounge and Grill on Ngong Road. The decision follows mounting complaints from nearby residents over persistent noise pollution and the club’s continued disregard of previous county warnings.

The operation, led by Geoffrey Mosiria, Nairobi’s Chief Officer of Environment, was part of a night enforcement sweep responding to repeated grievances from the surrounding community. According to Mosiria, the establishment will remain closed until it installs proper soundproofing systems and complies fully with environmental regulations.

“The closure isn’t about stifling nightlife,” Mosiria clarified. “It’s about striking a balance between vibrant entertainment and the rights of residents to peace and quiet. If the club adheres to the required standards particularly in soundproofing we’re ready to support their reopening.”

He emphasized that the county’s intention isn’t to shut down clubs arbitrarily but to foster a culture of responsible business operations. Mosiria added that the county is even willing to provide technical support by connecting clubs with experts to help implement adequate sound control solutions.

The move comes just days after Habanos Lounge, a popular spot on Kiambu Road, faced a similar fate over noise-related violations signaling what appears to be a broader enforcement trend by City Hall aimed at taming unruly entertainment venues across Nairobi.

Residents in affected areas have long decried the disruption caused by blaring music, often late into the night, and the county seems poised to take further action where necessary. For Nairobi’s entertainment scene, the message is clear: play by the rules or face the silence.
