Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has moved to clear the air on the recent redeployment of police officers, amid public speculation surrounding the transfer of popular Mugithi artist and police officer, Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu better known as Samidoh.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, May 28, Kanja was pressed on the matter, particularly in relation to the musician’s reported reassignment. Without naming Samidoh directly, the police chief emphasized that all officer transfers follow due administrative process and are in line with public service regulations.

“Police officers are public servants. Like others in the civil service, they are subject to transfers and routine administrative decisions,” Kanja stated, brushing off claims of any unusual motives behind the move.

Despite his general remarks, reports have circulated suggesting that Samidoh was transferred from the Central Region Police Headquarters to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil a shift that has sparked public curiosity.

The transfer comes in the wake of a viral video from May 16, showing the Mugithi star performing at a local club where audience members were seen chanting slogans considered critical of the government. The incident fueled speculation that the singer’s popularity and the political undertones at the event may have influenced the decision.

However, Kanja’s remarks appeared aimed at distancing the police service from such claims, reaffirming that the force’s operations remain guided by protocol not politics.
