Authorities have intensified their crackdown on counterfeit agricultural inputs following a major seizure of fake fertilizer and maize seeds in a recent operation. Law enforcement officials raided a facility where repackaging and distribution of counterfeit products were taking place, recovering various types of fake fertilizer, weighing equipment, and repackaging materials.

During the operation, three suspects were arrested, including a broker and a lorry driver, who are now assisting police with investigations.

The increasing distribution of fake agricultural inputs has raised concerns among farmers, especially in regions such as Nakuru and Kisii counties, where similar cases have been reported. To curb this, the government has urged farmers to purchase inputs from authorized dealers such as the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to ensure quality and avoid losses.

Authorities have also distributed an additional one million bags of subsidized fertilizer to depots across the country, ensuring that farmers have access to affordable and genuine products. Farmers are being called upon to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to safeguard their livelihoods and protect the integrity of Kenya’s agricultural sector.
