The investigation into the death of 31-year-old teacher and online influencer Albert Ojwang has taken another dramatic turn with the arrest of a second suspect a 23-year-old technician accused of sabotaging surveillance systems at Nairobi’s Central Police Station.

According to sources familiar with the probe, the technician allegedly disabled the station’s CCTV network in exchange for a payment of Ksh.3,000. The move, investigators believe, may have been a deliberate effort to conceal what transpired within the walls of the station, where Ojwang was last seen alive.

This development adds weight to earlier findings by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), which had flagged missing footage as a major obstacle in piecing together the final moments of Ojwang’s life. Of particular concern is the lack of recordings from the office of the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) a location that could potentially hold key insights.

Speaking before the Senate on Wednesday, IPOA Vice Chair Anne Wanjiku confirmed that critical portions of the surveillance feed had either been deleted or were simply unavailable. “These gaps raise serious concerns,” she noted, underscoring suspicions of a coordinated cover-up.

The technician’s arrest comes on the heels of another key suspect being taken into custody Police Constable James Mukhwana, who was apprehended by officers from the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and IPOA on Thursday. Mukhwana, stationed at Central Police Station, is expected to face murder charges in connection with Ojwang’s death.

Ojwang’s case has ignited national outrage, with growing calls for accountability and a transparent investigation. Activists, lawmakers, and the general public have continued to demand answers about how a man in police custody ended up dead his body bearing clear signs of violence, as confirmed by hospital and eyewitness reports.

As investigations intensify, the arrest of the technician not only deepens the mystery it also points to possible systemic tampering within the police station itself, raising broader questions about institutional complicity and the integrity of internal security protocols.
