Residents of Ivumbu village in Mbooni East, Makueni County, are reeling in shock after a 23-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her brother-in-law to death on Saturday evening, then later walked into a police station to report herself.

Authorities say the incident unfolded quietly in Utuneni Sub-location before the suspect, whose identity has not yet been made public, voluntarily surrendered at Ngiluni Police Station shortly after the fatal encounter.

Mbooni East Sub-county Police Commander Ephraim Karani confirmed the arrest and noted that the motive behind the killing remains unclear. “The suspect presented herself at the station after committing the act,” Karani said in a briefing on Sunday morning.

Police officers quickly responded to the scene following reports from local residents. The area was cordoned off, evidence was collected, and the body of the deceased was moved to the Mbumbuni Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since taken over the case, with detectives working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the killing. The woman remains in custody as authorities prepare to present her in court on Monday.
