Several football players were injured early Sunday morning after the van they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision along the Kitale-Lodwar highway near Karoge Centre in Turkana South.
The players were returning home from a league match when their Turkrift Shuttle collided with another vehicle. The impact left a number of them unconscious, while others sustained varying injuries. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
Scenes from the crash site revealed the severity of the accident players sitting on the roadside in visible distress, some lying on the ground as they waited for medical help. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic response, with passersby rushing in to assist as ambulances arrived to transport the injured to nearby hospitals.
Among those hurt was the team’s goalkeeper, who reportedly suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lodwar County and Referral Hospital for further treatment.
The club confirmed the incident in a statement, saying: “A few of our players are currently unconscious, but we thank God there have been no fatalities. They have all been rushed to the hospital and are receiving the necessary medical attention.”
Officials have urged the public to avoid circulating speculation or unverified reports, assuring that updates will be provided through official club channels.
This latest incident has once again raised alarms over road safety, particularly for teams and groups frequently traveling long distances. It comes just weeks after another crash in Kiambu County left several students injured.
