The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of a fresh wave of heavy rainfall expected to sweep across the country between October 23 and 30, 2025.
According to the advisory, the downpour will affect large parts of the country, including the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, the Highlands east and west of the Rift (among them Nairobi), the South-Eastern Lowlands, and portions of North-Eastern Kenya as the month draws to a close.
The weatherman says the rainfall will gradually intensify and expand to more regions, signalling the official onset of the October–November–December short rains.
Kenyans have been urged to remain vigilant, particularly in flood-prone and landslide-risk areas. The department is cautioning residents against crossing flooded roads, walking or driving through moving water, and seeking shelter under trees or in open spaces during thunderstorms.
Authorities are expected to monitor the situation closely as the rains pick up, with the public advised to stay alert for regular updates and follow safety guidelines to minimize risks associated with the approaching weather system.
