Rigathi Gachagua Takes On Ruto, Tells Mt. Kenya Residents to Demand Their Share

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sent a strong message to Mt. Kenya residents, urging them to be firm in demanding their fair share from President William Ruto’s administration. Speaking ahead of Ruto’s planned tour of the region, Gachagua emphasized that the community must claim its rightful stake in government resources and appointments.

Gachagua, who has been vocal about Mt. Kenya’s interests, told residents that their overwhelming support in the 2022 elections should not go unrewarded. “We cannot be ignored. We voted almost to the last person, and we must get our fair share,” he declared.

He further advised the people to be direct with the president when he visits. “The president is coming. You have a right to ask him what is in it for us,” he told the crowd.

Gachagua did not hold back in criticizing politicians who mislead the public, saying that people should not listen to lies for free. “You see, people are being paid to listen to lies. So, we’ve decided that if we’re going to listen to lies, we must ask for higher compensation. Taking KSh 200 to hear lies will make you look foolish,” he remarked.

The DP went further to jokingly suggest a new “rate card” for political rallies: “Listening to lies should cost KSh 3,000. Women cheering should be charged KSh 10,000, clapping KSh 2,000, and laughing KSh 5,000,” he added.

Gachagua’s remarks have intensified speculation about a growing rift between him and President Ruto, with many interpreting his words as a sign of discontent over the distribution of power and resources.

As Ruto prepares for his tour, all eyes will be on how he addresses Gachagua’s demands and whether the Mt. Kenya region will rally behind the DP’s call for a stronger bargaining position.
