Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has launched a stinging attack on President William Ruto’s administration, accusing the Executive of being the very heart of Kenya’s corruption problem.

In an interview on Spice FM on Thursday, Owino argued that the government’s anti-graft rhetoric is nothing more than political theatre, designed to shield allies while targeting perceived enemies.

“You cannot claim to fight corruption with dirty hands,” he charged. “The Executive is already rotten. If the president is serious about this fight, he must begin by cleaning his own house.”

The MP singled out alleged scandals around the e-Citizen platform, claiming billions have been siphoned off, and questioned the financing of the recently built State House church. His pointed questions were blunt: “How much does the president earn monthly? How much has he accumulated in three years? Is it enough to build such a church? The figures don’t add up.”

Owino also dismissed the president’s repeated assertion that Parliament is the hub of corruption, turning the accusation back on State House. According to him, any bribery that takes place within the House originates from the Executive itself.

“Where does the money come from?” he asked. “If MPs are bribed, it is money trickling down from the presidency. Therefore, corruption starts at the Executive.”

His remarks cut to the heart of a political battle that has long plagued Kenya: who truly owns the fight against corruption the leaders who invoke it for convenience, or the institutions that are supposed to prosecute it without fear or favour?
