A somber mood has engulfed Angata Barikoi Ward in Narok County following the brutal killing of a young girl who was preparing to sit for her Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

The victim, identified as Cynthia Chepkirui, a pupil at Engoiperien School, was reported missing on her way to school before her lifeless body was later discovered dumped in a nearby sugarcane plantation.

According to Oldonyo Orok Assistant Chief, Robert Kirui, the girl had left home early in the morning to sit her examination but never made it to the school compound. “Her body was found with deep injuries and her neck slit,” Kirui confirmed, adding that police were immediately notified of the gruesome discovery.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since taken over the matter, with forensic officers combing the scene for clues as they begin the search for the perpetrators. The body has been moved to Lolgorian Hospital morgue pending post-mortem.

Shocked residents thronged the area, struggling to come to terms with the killing. Community members led by Wilson Bett condemned the incident and demanded swift action from law enforcement.

“This is heartbreaking. A young girl on her way to sit for exams met such a cruel end. We want justice for Cynthia,” Bett said.

The incident has reignited calls for enhanced security for learners, especially during the ongoing national examinations.
