Newly appointed Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou and his deputy Agatha Wahome were officially sworn into office on Monday, marking the start of their tenure at the helm of Kenya’s political parties regulator.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Supreme Court of Kenya, where Chief Justice Martha Koome administered the oaths of office. The event formally ushers in a new leadership era at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), a key institution in the oversight and regulation of political parties across the country.
Lorionokou assumes office following the departure of Sophia Sitati, who has been serving in an acting capacity since July 14, 2025. His appointment is expected to strengthen the institution’s efforts to ensure political accountability, compliance with the Political Parties Act, and the promotion of transparent governance within Kenya’s multi-party democracy.
Wahome, who will serve as Assistant Registrar, is also expected to play a crucial role in enhancing institutional efficiency and stakeholder engagement, particularly ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
