The Kenya National Examinations Council has started releasing payments to thousands of individuals who were engaged during the 2025 national examinations, ending months of uncertainty over delayed allowances.
The disbursement covers a broad group of personnel, including teachers, security officers, and drivers who were involved in supervising, administering, and supporting the examination process across the country.
For many of those affected, the move brings long-awaited relief after a prolonged wait for compensation linked to last year’s assessments.
However, the government has cautioned that payments will not be made simultaneously to all beneficiaries. According to Julius Bitok, the release of funds will be carried out in phases due to existing financial limitations.
This means some workers may still have to wait longer before receiving their dues, even as the payment process gets underway.
The phased approach highlights ongoing budgetary pressures within the education sector, even as authorities work to settle outstanding obligations from the national examinations exercise.
