Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has announced a temporary hitch in its cancer treatment services following an unexpected breakdown of its Linear Accelerator (LINAC) Elekta machine, a crucial piece of equipment used in radiotherapy for cancer patients.
In a statement, Acting CEO Dr. William Sigilai assured patients and the public that the hospital had already put in place referral systems to ensure those affected continue receiving care without major delays. “We understand how vital these services are, and we’ve acted quickly to reduce the disruption,” he said.
On a positive note, the hospital confirmed that its Cobalt radiotherapy machine, which had been offline, is now fully repaired and back in operation. This machine will help fill the gap and support ongoing treatments.
Meanwhile, KNH is making good progress in acquiring a new LINAC machine. The procurement process is well underway, and the hospital hopes to have full oncology services up and running again soon.
