The NCBA Golf Series returns to the greens this weekend, heading to the par-73 Ruiru Sports Club for its 15th leg of the 2025 season. With over 260 golfers expected to participate, anticipation is high for what promises to be one of the most fiercely contested events on the calendar.
Golfers will compete for top honors across various categories, including Men’s and Ladies’ Gross Winners, Division 2 and Division 3 champions, as well as a Junior title. Winners from each category will earn qualification to the Series Grand Finale slated for later in the year.
The Ruiru leg follows a successful East African doubleheader last weekend, where action unfolded simultaneously at Karen Country Club in Nairobi and Uganda Golf Club in Kampala. A combined total of 460 players turned out across both venues, reflecting the rapid growth and popularity of the series.
At Karen, Gilbert Maina delivered a commanding performance with a round of 74 gross off handicap 4 to take the overall winner’s title. In the women’s category, Koki Muia emerged top after carding a gross score of 81. The day also saw strong performances from Peter Marandu, who secured the Men’s Division One title with 40 points playing off handicap 11, and Betty Gacheru, who posted an impressive 42 points off handicap 16 to win the Division Two Ladies’ category. Cyllus Onyango claimed the Men’s Division Two title with 41 points on countback, narrowly edging out competitors. In Division Three, Kenneth Muraguri also carded 41 points on countback to claim victory, while junior golfer Nathan Gikemi finished strong with 39 points off handicap 24.
Meanwhile, across the border in Kampala, Gabriel Amani lit up the Uganda Golf Club course with a stellar performance, finishing with 47 points to take the overall winner’s honors in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Reflecting on the progress of the series so far, NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora noted the growing scale and energy around the tournament. “After a very busy outing last weekend at Karen and in Uganda, we shift gears this Saturday to Ruiru for the next qualifying leg. We remain dedicated to supporting the growth and development of golf across the country,” he said. Gachora praised Ruiru Sports Club for its consistent role in hosting this leg, calling it an “excellent venue that always delivers a competitive and enjoyable experience.”
Last year’s edition at Ruiru saw Angelus Maina walk away with the Men’s Division One title after carding 36 stableford points, while Catherine Wambui claimed the Ladies’ crown with 29 points. With this year’s field even deeper, expectations are high for another thrilling showdown on the fairways.
As the NCBA Golf Series continues to build momentum, Ruiru now takes center stage a course known for testing skill and rewarding resilience. For the golfers, the stakes are clear: perform well, and a spot in the grand finale awaits.
