Hope is rising in Suba-South as the foundations are laid for a state-of-the-art sports academy that promises to transform both talent and livelihoods. The new facility, set within Magunga Primary School, marks the beginning of a KSh 55 million investment in youth potential and community development.
On Wednesday, Cabinet Secretary for Sports Salim Mvurya broke ground on the project, which aims to nurture local athletes and open pathways to international platforms. More than a training ground, the academy is envisioned as a launchpad for young people to grow, compete, and thrive beyond borders.
Designed with ambition, the complex will include standard athletics tracks, spaces for football, basketball, and netball, proper changing rooms, a water system powered by a borehole, and a social centre for community use.
Beyond its impact on sports, the construction itself will bring short-term benefits. Mvurya instructed the builders to source labor from the local population, ensuring that families benefit economically during the development phase.

While unveiling additional community projects funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), Mvurya commended Member of Parliament Kalori Omondi for his consistent drive toward progress. He also recognized the community for backing national efforts to foster inclusive growth.
The Sports CS emphasized that when people and government work in sync, the results can reshape futures not just through infrastructure, but through opportunity and unity.
