The opposition’s push for national change gained fresh momentum this week as top political figures embarked on a tour of Western Kenya, rallying supporters and amplifying what they have dubbed a “liberation cause” for the country.
Led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the campaign seeks to galvanize public support while spotlighting issues of governance, inequality, and national unity. They were joined on the trail by key allies including DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Attorney General Justin Muturi, and ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
The leaders made stops in Vihiga and Kakamega counties on Wednesday, receiving a warm reception from residents eager to hear their vision for the country’s future.
Wrapping up the Kakamega leg of the tour, Kalonzo reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to standing with Kenyans and confronting systemic injustices. “In Vihiga and Kakamega, we saw the power of citizens who are tired of empty promises. They want more and they deserve more,” he told supporters.
He went on to condemn attempts to disrupt their events, praising young people especially Gen Z for stepping in to protect the space for political expression. “We were met with hostility from hired goons, but the courage of the youth unafraid and unwavering kept us going,” Kalonzo said.
Deputy President Gachagua echoed similar sentiments in a post shared on social media, expressing appreciation for the outpouring of support the delegation received.
“We’ve concluded day one of our Western tour in Malaha, Navakholo, Kakamega County. The reception was electric,” he said. “Thank you to the incredible people of Vihiga and Kakamega for your warmth and energy. You remind us why we must keep pressing forward for a better, fairer Kenya.”
As the tour continues, the opposition appears to be building not just political momentum, but a sense of grassroots solidarity framed around justice, accountability, and a renewed national identity.
