Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has sharply criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for invoking the painful memories of Kenya’s 2007/2008 post-election violence in recent public comments.

In a strongly worded video shared Saturday morning, Sudi expressed concern over Gachagua’s remarks made during a TV interview, accusing the former DP of crossing a dangerous line by carelessly referring to one of Kenya’s darkest chapters.

“You’re becoming too reckless. You’re not behaving like a leader,” Sudi said bluntly. “Talk about politics, campaign all you want but don’t drag us back into 2007. People suffered. Some still carry that pain.”

The comments come in response to Gachagua’s interview on Obinna TV, where he claimed that if the 2027 elections are rigged, the resulting violence could surpass the chaos of 2007. “If that IEBC tries to mess with the elections, there will be no country here,” Gachagua warned. “2007 will look like a Christmas party.”

For Sudi, such language is not only inflammatory but dangerous. He warned that freedom of speech must be used responsibly, especially by public figures. “Yes, you’re allowed to speak but don’t abuse that freedom. Not with something this sensitive,” he cautioned.

The Kapseret legislator went a step further, linking Gachagua’s alleged recklessness to his political downfall. “This is exactly why you were impeached. You speak without thinking. You’re a half-term DP because you couldn’t lead responsibly,” Sudi said.

He urged Gachagua to remember the gravity of the 2007/2008 crisis, which left thousands dead and displaced, and to avoid exploiting that history for political mileage.

“Say what you want about government officials. Ask for votes. But leave the wounds of 2007 alone. Let people heal,” Sudi concluded.

The exchange adds fuel to the ongoing political rift within the Kenya Kwanza camp, as figures like Gachagua grow increasingly vocal against President Ruto’s leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
