A wave of grief swept through the nation following the tragic killing of Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett, a Catholic priest from St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Kabartile Village, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
In a heartfelt message shared on Friday, President William Ruto paid tribute to Father Allois, describing him as a beacon of hope and a voice of peace. “He was more than a spiritual guide he was a pillar in the community, a man whose words calmed storms and united people,” the President noted.
The Head of State assured the public that those responsible for the killing would be pursued relentlessly. “This senseless act will not go unpunished. We are mobilizing all necessary resources to find and bring the culprits to justice. The government remains committed to restoring calm and safety in the Kerio Valley,” he affirmed.
Father Bett’s death occurred on Thursday in Mokoro Location, Kakiptul Sub-Location. According to the National Police Service, the priest was ambushed and fatally shot by unknown assailants who fled immediately after the attack. A swift operation by General Service Unit officers is currently underway to track them down.
As tributes pour in from across the country, the community mourns the loss of a man whose mission was peace and whose life was cut short in violence.
