A group of lawmakers has rallied behind President William Ruto, pushing back against mounting public criticism and what they claim is a deliberate smear campaign by opposition figures.

At a gathering in Nyandarua County, at least 21 Members of Parliament voiced strong support for the president, calling for respect and a fair assessment of his administration’s performance. The MPs took particular aim at opposition leaders allied with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing them of misrepresenting the government’s efforts.

Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau, who led the charge, said the government had delivered on several fronts since taking office two years ago. She pointed to progress in infrastructure, healthcare, electricity access, and education. “People can judge for themselves. The developments are visible. We won’t sit back and let Kenyans be misled into thinking nothing has been done,” she said.

Murang’a Woman MP Betty Maina issued a pointed warning to regions that have distanced themselves from the current administration, arguing that support for the government is key to accessing development opportunities. “You cannot stand on the sidelines and expect priority treatment. Support brings results,” she asserted.

Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku echoed the sentiment, citing tangible gains in his constituency thanks to government support. He said his loyalty to the administration is driven by impact, not political allegiance. “My people have benefited from roads and electricity. Why would I walk away from that progress because of political shifts?” he posed.

On matters of electoral oversight, the group pledged their backing for the nominees to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) once the list is tabled in Parliament, framing it as part of their commitment to stability and institutional renewal.

As political temperatures rise, the MPs’ united front signals a deeper rift between factions once seen as allies and a growing effort to solidify Ruto’s political base ahead of future battles.
