Law enforcement officers have arrested two suspects linked to a midnight robbery at Shawal Petrol Station in Wajir County. The suspects were apprehended following a swift response by police after receiving a distress call.

In a statement released on Thursday, March 20, 2025, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrests, stating that officers from Wajir Police Station responded immediately to reports of the daring attack along Mandera Road.

The robbery was carried out by a gang of five individuals dressed in jungle uniforms, impersonating police officers. They stormed the petrol station, subdued the watchman and pump attendant, and tied them up before escaping with Ksh30,000 in cash.

However, their freedom was short-lived as police launched a pursuit, leading to the arrest of two suspects, identified as 49-year-old John Mwaura and 28-year-old Muia Mutuku.

During the operation, officers recovered several incriminating items, including a mallet, an Administration Police jungle jacket, a military jungle trouser, and a military jungle jacket.

“The suspects are currently undergoing processing and will be arraigned in court soon,” the DCI said in its statement, adding that efforts to track down the remaining three gang members are ongoing.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as the search for the fugitives continues.
