A court in Baringo has handed a life sentence to a man convicted of robbery with violence, citing the seriousness of the offence and his continued threats to the victim.

Peter Natesero Lengusu was found guilty of attacking a resident at Kampi Turkana village, Marigat Location, Baringo South Sub-County, on August 10, 2024. Prosecutors told the court that Lengusu, alongside accomplices still at large, robbed the victim of a mobile phone before assaulting him.

After the attack, Lengusu evaded arrest for a period before being tracked down by community members, who alerted police.

In her judgment, Kabarnet Senior Principal Magistrate Caroline Ateya said the offence was aggravated by the accused’s lack of remorse and his explicit threats to kill the victim and others involved in his arrest. The court heard that Lengusu warned his targets to “start digging their graves before he arrives from prison.”

Magistrate Ateya ruled that such threats showed he remained a danger to the community, warranting the maximum penalty under the law life imprisonment.
