The National Police Service has announced the arrest of seven people believed to have taken part in the violent confrontation that unfolded outside a Kariobangi North church during a service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on November 30.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, December 2, officers tracked down the suspects in the Lucky Summer area, where they were apprehended and booked ahead of their court appearance. Investigators say the operation is still active, with more arrests expected as police continue to review video, photographic material and acoustic analysis from the chaotic scene.
“The National Police Service confirms the arrest of seven suspects linked to the Kariobangi North PCEA Church disturbances… Further arrests are expected upon the completion of investigations,” the statement read.
Tensions flared on Sunday after two rival groups one allegedly hired to disrupt the gathering and another said to be aligned with Gachagua clashed near the church compound. The former DP had attended the service to lead a thanksgiving ceremony for DCP’s Wanyoike Warui, the newly elected Kariobangi North ward representative.
The confrontation quickly spilled into the road leading to the church, forcing police to respond. Officers fired in the air and deployed teargas to break up the confrontation, briefly interrupting the proceedings inside the sanctuary.
Authorities say they are determined to identify everyone involved and bring all offenders to justice as investigations intensify.
