With just days to go before the 20th World Athletics Championships kick off in Tokyo, Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet has received a major boost — her stunning 5000m world record has been officially ratified.

Chebet etched her name in history on July 5 at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League, where she became the first woman ever to dip under 14 minutes in the 12-and-a-half-lap race. She stopped the clock at 13:58.06, rewriting the limits of women’s distance running.

The 25-year-old double Olympic champion is now the holder of four world records the 10,000m mark of 28:54.14 set in July 2024, the women-only 5km (14:13), the mixed 5km (13:54), and now the 5000m.

Her ratified feat adds another layer of anticipation as she prepares to take on the world in Tokyo, where all eyes will be on whether she can extend her dominance even further.
