Cruz Azul turned the CONCACAF Champions Cup final into a showcase of dominance, thrashing Vancouver Whitecaps 5-0 on Sunday night and securing a record-equalling seventh continental title.

The game, played in a charged Mexico City atmosphere, was one-sided from the outset. By halftime, Cruz Azul had already put four goals past a shell-shocked Vancouver side, leaving little to play for in the second half. Angel Sepúlveda was at the heart of the demolition job, bagging two goals and sealing his position as the tournament’s top scorer with nine goals.

The Whitecaps, who were making their first appearance in a CONCACAF final, never found their rhythm and became the third Canadian club to reach the final and the third to lose it. Their dream run ended in harsh reality, outpaced and outclassed by a far more experienced Cruz Azul side.

This result also extended a familiar trend in regional football: for the third consecutive year, a team from Major League Soccer has fallen to Mexican opposition in the final, highlighting the enduring supremacy of Liga MX on the continental stage.

With this victory, Cruz Azul joins Club América at the summit with seven CONCACAF titles a testament to their legacy and consistent dominance in the region. For Vancouver, and MLS by extension, the gap remains clear and the climb steeper than ever.
