The unsolved death of the first-year student at Daystar University in Athi River, Machakos County,has prompted her parents,to express their outrage.
Mercy Jeroni Kwambai, aged 18 years, was discovered dead in the institution.
Since then, her parents have found fault with a police report that said she committed suicide.
Preliminary findings point to suicide,this is according to the police report put in at the Athi River Police Station,a day after her passing, on September 9, 2023, when the case was reported.
The report said, in part, “The body of a female first-year student was found lying in a pool of blood at the Patience West hostel washroom. The death was reported by the University’s security coordinator.”
According to police, Kwambai who had just reported to the University five days before, had locked herself in the toilet and stabbed herself on the left chest using a knife. However, the family has questioned the report demanding thorough investigations to be conducted inclusive of a postmortem report to be availed, where by they are set to address media on the matter, after a conclusive report is filed.
