Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has reportedly been abducted by unknown individuals, just two days after narrowly escaping a similar ordeal.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, May 25, while the lawmaker was attending a church service at the Full Gospel Church in Mugutha, Kiambu County. According to eyewitnesses, Koimburi was forcibly taken in front of a stunned congregation and bundled into a Subaru vehicle by unidentified assailants.
This latest development follows reports that the MP had gone into hiding after a dramatic escape earlier in the week. According to Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, Koimburi had evaded an initial abduction attempt on Friday, May 23, fleeing on a motorcycle after realizing he was being trailed.
Speaking on the matter, Senator Thang’wa a close political associate of Koimburi confirmed that the MP had resurfaced briefly on Sunday before being taken. “They have been trailing him since last week, especially during bursary disbursements,” Thang’wa stated. “It was by sheer luck that he managed to escape on a motorbike.”
Tragically, during Sunday’s incident, Koimburi’s wife sustained injuries while attempting to prevent the abduction of her husband. The family and local leaders have since raised serious concerns about the safety of the lawmaker and called for urgent intervention by authorities.
As of now, the whereabouts of MP Koimburi remain unknown. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the matter, and investigations are expected to intensify in the coming hours.
