Detectives recover bhang worth Ksh11M in Kisii

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that a consignment of bhang worth Ksh11 million has been recovered in Kisii county.

In a statement, the DCI noted that the illegal goods which were being ferried on a Toyota Prado were recovered after the detectives acting on intelligence intercepted the vehicle as it was headed to Kilgoris town.

At the time of the operation, the detectives who were on active patrol sighted the vehicle and immediately signaled the driver to stop but he defied orders and sped off, prompting the officers to go after him.

The suspect made a U-turn towards Kanyenye, before abandoning his vehicle within Matembe area after he realized that the detectives were going after him.

“During the afternoon recovery, the officers who were on an active patrol had sighted a white Toyota Prado that was loaded with a suspicious consignment heading towards Kilgoris town.

“The officers signaled the driver of the vehicle to stop but he defied the orders and sped off at breakneck speed and upon reaching Magena area, he made a quick U-turn back towards Kanyenye. When realized that he was being trailed by our men, he abandoned the vehicle within Metembe area and escaped on foot, (SIC)” ,” the statement reads in parts.

Detectives who arrived at the scene recovered six sacks and fifteen bales of leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

The goods were seized and moved to the police station pending further investigations.

“The vehicle was towed to Kenyeye Police Station and a detailed search was conducted. Six sacks and fifteen bales of leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa all weighing 379Kgs were recovered. The illegal consignment together with the vehicle were all placed in police custody pending further investigations,” DCI added.
