This weekend, the serene greens of Kakamega Sports Club will buzz with energy as over 200 golf enthusiasts gather for the much-anticipated Lady Captain’s Tournament a lively mix of competition, celebration, and community connection.
At the heart of the four-day event is Lady Captain Beatrice Otieno, whose leadership has drawn players from all walks of the golfing world: seasoned amateurs, club regulars, promising young talent, and high-profile corporate guests. This year’s edition is expected to be the biggest yet in Western Kenya, both in scale and spirit.
“This isn’t just about me,” said Otieno. “It’s about honouring the sport, cherishing the friendships it brings, and showing how golf is growing stronger in our region. The support has been overwhelming, and the course is in fantastic shape. We’re ready to tee off.”
The main action begins at dawn on Saturday, with an 18-hole stroke play tournament starting at 6:30 am. Golfers will compete in different divisions including men’s, ladies’, juniors, and invited VIP guests.
While the top performers will walk away with an array of exciting prizes, every participant is promised more than just competition. The event promises a premium golf experience flawless fairways, a vibrant clubhouse atmosphere, and a grand prize-giving ceremony featuring live music, gourmet dining, and moving tributes.
But golf won’t be the only thing making waves at the event.
The tournament will also serve as the launchpad for Tindi, a new youth-driven app that’s redefining how attention fuels Kenya’s nightlife and digital culture. Inspired by a Swahili word for “social drinking,” Tindi was born from a spark in 19-year-old Emmanuel Okola Opati’s mind after a set book reading session took an unexpected turn.
The concept? Turning attention likes, shares, and digital buzz into social currency. “Tindi captures the spirit of a night out with friends, the joy of shared moments, and the excitement of being seen. We wanted to create an app that feels like a sherehe in your pocket,” said Opati.
As fairways fill with swings and selfies, the Lady Captain’s Tournament is shaping up to be more than a golf event it’s a celebration of leadership, community, and Kenya’s evolving social spirit.
