A morning commute turned chaotic on Tuesday after a bus ferrying more than 40 passengers overturned along the Thika Superhighway, sparking heavy traffic gridlock.

The Nairobi-bound bus toppled near Safari Park Hotel, leaving dozens of commuters with minor injuries and a state of shock. Motorists watched as traffic police and bystanders rushed to help passengers climb out of the wreckage, while emergency crews quickly cordoned off the stretch.

Ambulances and officers from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) arrived moments later, treating the injured on-site as traffic police redirected vehicles through service lanes to ease the mounting jam.

Still, the congestion worsened as authorities temporarily blocked sections of the highway to facilitate the removal of the bus. A recovery truck was brought in to tow the vehicle, but by then the snarl-up had stretched several kilometres, leaving many stranded on their morning drive to the city.

Frustrated motorists turned to social media to vent, warning others to avoid the route as crews worked to restore normal traffic flow.
