Wayne Rooney has backed Arsenal’s teenage sensation Max Dowman to enjoy a glittering career after the youngster lit up the Emirates on his Premier League debut.
Dowman, just 15 years and 234 days old, made history on Saturday when he came off the bench in Arsenal’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Leeds. The attacking midfielder didn’t just make up the numbers his fearless display included winning a late penalty that Viktor Gyökeres coolly converted.
Reflecting on the performance during The Wayne Rooney Show podcast, the former Manchester United striker admitted even he was stunned by the milestone.
“To play at that age in the Premier League is crazy,” Rooney said. “I know I was young when I made my debut, but he’s around 150 days younger than I was. For Max and his family, this must feel like a dream, maybe even a fairytale.”
Rooney added that the teenager’s potential is undeniable. “You can see his future is so bright. He’s going to have a massive future.”
Dowman’s debut has already sparked excitement among Arsenal fans, with many hailing him as the club’s next big academy breakthrough.
