Kenya’s Nyayo National Stadium is officially sold out ahead of Harambee Stars’ crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

The overwhelming response follows appeals from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and a section of fans urging Kenyans to fill the stadium and support the national team in their World Cup quest.

FKF Thanks Fans for Unwavering Support

FKF announced the sellout on social media, expressing gratitude to Kenyans for their passionate backing of the team.

“All tickets for our FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Gabon are officially sold out! Your unwavering support means everything! Let’s paint Nyayo red, black, and green this Sunday. Come cheer the team and let your voices be heard—your energy could make all the difference,” FKF said on X.

Harambee Stars Aim for Historic Qualification

The massive turnout comes days after Kenya staged an impressive comeback to draw 2-2 against The Gambia at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan. Goalkeeper Ian Otieno’s first-half penalty save kept the game level before Harambee Stars fought back from two goals down to salvage a crucial point.

Despite Kenya’s rich sporting culture, local football matches have struggled to attract full stadiums in recent years. However, Sunday’s sold-out clash signals renewed hope and excitement among fans.

Harambee Stars currently sit fourth in Group F with six points from three matches, trailing leaders Ivory Coast by 12 points. The match against Gabon is a must-win as Kenya continues its campaign to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in history.
