Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has officially cut ties with the Jubilee Party, ending a leadership journey that began with the party’s formation in 2016.

In a resignation letter dated August 19 and addressed to party leader Uhuru Kenyatta, Tuju said he had reached the conclusion that his continued stay no longer added value to the outfit.

“I still look forward to working with you in the future,” Tuju wrote. “However, at present, I see no more value that I can add to the Jubilee Party. I therefore tender my resignation. Please accept my best wishes for your well-being and the Party.”

Tuju was a central figure in Jubilee’s birth, taking up the role of founding Secretary General after 11 parties dissolved to create the mega outfit that powered Kenyatta’s 2017 re-election bid against Raila Odinga.

Ahead of the 2022 polls, he stepped down from the Secretary General post after consultations with then-President Kenyatta, handing over to Jeremiah Kioni. However, he remained part of the party’s executive structure.

With his departure, Tuju closes a significant chapter in his political career and in the history of a party once regarded as one of Kenya’s most formidable political machines.
