Authorities in Nakuru have arrested a sixth suspect in connection with a spate of violent robberies that have left residents living in fear. The latest arrest marks a significant step forward in an ongoing crackdown targeting armed criminal gangs operating in the county.
Elijah Kimani Kinyanjui was apprehended in the Mzee wa Nyama area and found with items believed to have been stolen during a recent armed robbery in Pakawa. He is now in custody and expected to be charged alongside five others arrested earlier in a sweeping operation.
This comes just 48 hours after detectives from the DCI’s elite Operation Action Team, the Crime Research Bureau, and local units zeroed in on five suspected gang members behind a series of vicious attacks, including a deadly encounter that claimed the life of a police officer on June 1.
During that coordinated bust, officers recovered an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in multiple armed robberies across the county. The same gang is also linked to a grisly attack in the Soilo area, where a 24-year-old shopkeeper was hacked with machetes and stabbed before being fatally shot outside his shop. The robbers made away with a significant amount of cash.
Police have named the five previously arrested suspects as William Nywhili Rioba, Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo, and Peter Chacha.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities vowing to dismantle the criminal network and restore safety across Nakuru County.
