Residents of Laikipia County have a reason to breathe easier after 25 stolen animals were tracked down and recovered through a joint operation involving security agencies and community leaders.
The recovery, announced by the National Police Service (NPS), followed close cooperation between the Samburu Peace Committee, elders from Kahuho Village, and the area chief. Working hand in hand, the group traced the livestock stolen on September 9 and retrieved them in the Mutara area on Sunday, September 14.
The animals are currently secured at the Olmotonyi ASTU Camp and will soon be handed over to their rightful owner. Meanwhile, a multi-agency team is following leads to arrest those behind the theft.
Police lauded the initiative, saying the successful operation underlined the value of community policing in protecting both property and livelihoods. “Remain vigilant and share information that could help security agencies prevent similar crimes,” NPS urged locals in a message on X.
Residents were also reminded to use available toll-free hotlines 999, 911, 112, and 0800 722 200 or report via WhatsApp at 0709 570 000 whenever they have useful intelligence.
For many in the region, where livestock theft has long posed a threat to peace and economic stability, the recovery marks an important step in strengthening trust between citizens and law enforcement.
