Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to take the reins of the Jubilee Party’s Special National Delegates Convention (NDC) on Friday, a gathering billed as a turning point for a party that has spent years battling internal strife.

The convention comes in the wake of bruising disputes triggered by attempts from a faction led by nominated MP Sabina Chege and EALA legislator Kanini Kega to wrest control of the party. Their push ignited a prolonged standoff that left Jubilee’s direction hanging in the balance.

For members and supporters, attention is firmly fixed on Uhuru’s keynote address, which is expected to chart the party’s future course as it positions itself for the 2027 General Election.

The build-up to the meeting has been heightened by the presence of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, whose recent consultative sessions with Jubilee members have fueled speculation about his potential role in shaping the party’s revival.

Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni underscored Matiang’i’s involvement as part of a broader process of renewal. “Today, I had the privilege of leading a consultative meeting with former Jubilee Party members of Parliament alongside Hon. Fred Matiang’i and other leaders. Together, we reflected on our shared journey and laid the ground for the Jubilee Party NDC this Friday. This gathering is more than preparation; it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to unity, renewal, and a politics defined by purpose. Jubilee’s story is still being written, and together we move,” he said.

But as the NDC looms, rank-and-file members are demanding clarity on the party’s leadership structure, which remains clouded after years of factional wrangling. “Let the former president make it clear to us who are leading the party and in what position you are confusing us,” one supporter posted on social media.

For Jubilee, Friday’s meeting may not just be another convention it could be the moment the party either reclaims its voice or slips further into political obscurity.
