The government has announced plans to construct modern hostels across all Universities and Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, speaking during President William Ruto’s official Mt. Kenya tour in Tharaka Nithi County, emphasized that the initiative is part of a larger vision to equip institutions with the infrastructure necessary for student success.
“The Government will construct modern hostels in all Universities and Technical and Vocational Education Training institutions to give students a safe and conducive environment to study, acquire skills and prepare them to participate in the socio-economic transformation of the Country,” said DP Kindiki while addressing over 8,000 students at Tharaka University.
Highlighting the scale of the commitment, the DP revealed that in Tharaka University alone, a new hostel accommodating 1,200 students will be built, along with the completion of long-stalled projects.
“In Tharaka University, we will construct a modern hostel that will accommodate 1,200 students and complete all stalled projects, including the administration block, build roads leading to the University and improve the water and sanitation infrastructure,” he added.
The development forms part of the Kenya Kwanza Administration’s broader agenda to overhaul the education sector through targeted policy, administrative, and legislative measures. According to Kindiki, the aim is to ensure students study in institutions that are not only financially stable but also aligned with the government’s transformative economic vision.
