With just months to go before the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) kicks off, Kenya is locked in a race against time to meet strict infrastructure requirements set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, is set to host two to three test matches in June as part of a critical trial phase to assess the venue’s readiness. Nyayo National Stadium, which has also undergone major refurbishment, will co-host the continental event.

The urgent preparations follow CAF’s decision to postpone the tournament from February to August 2–30, giving co-hosts Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania more time to fix infrastructure gaps flagged during earlier assessments.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, together with Defence CS Soipan Tuya, inspected the two facilities on Monday and offered a progress report, expressing confidence that Kenya will meet all requirements in time for the kickoff.

The tournament, reserved for players competing in their domestic leagues, is expected to test not just Kenya’s footballing readiness, but also its ability to deliver on international sports infrastructure after years of stalled projects and missed opportunities.
