Police have opened investigations into a series of violent incidents across the country that have left several people dead, with authorities warning of a worrying rise in domestic disputes and mob justice.
In Bungoma County, detectives are probing the death of a 22-year-old man whose body was discovered inside his house in Sang’alo area. The victim, identified as Peter Sifuna Wekesa, was found lying on the floor with multiple injuries. Preliminary findings indicate that a disagreement within the family may have escalated into a brutal assault. Five people have been taken into custody for questioning, among them a 14-year-old boy, as police pursue more suspects linked to the killing. The body has been transferred to the mortuary as autopsy arrangements are made.
A separate tragedy was reported in Langalanga area of Gilgil, Nakuru County, where a 73-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained during a domestic confrontation. Police said the elderly man, Moses Kiarie, was allegedly struck on the head by his son during a dispute. He later died while receiving treatment in hospital. The suspect fled the scene and is currently being sought by officers. The deceased’s body is awaiting postmortem examination.
In Narok South sub-county, authorities arrested a cattle herder accused of killing his employer’s son following a quarrel. Police say the suspect attacked the victim using a club and a panga, inflicting fatal injuries. He remains in custody as investigations continue ahead of his arraignment.
Meanwhile, in Nyaramba area of Nyamira County, a man suspected of burglary was lynched by an angry mob. Witnesses told police the victim was stoned to death before his body was set ablaze. Officers arrived at the scene after the incident and moved the remains to a mortuary for further examination.
Police have condemned the incidents, particularly cases of mob justice, urging members of the public to report suspects to law enforcement instead of taking the law into their own hands. Authorities say they are handling numerous similar cases countrywide and have intensified efforts to curb the growing trend of fatal domestic violence and vigilante attacks.
