The unfolding saga around the purported kidnapping of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi takes a new turn today as key suspects are set to appear in court under a miscellaneous application.

Authorities are expected to request extended detention for those apprehended, as investigations into the controversial case continue. The incident, which has stirred debate across Kenya’s political spectrum, is now suspected to have been orchestrated.

Among those arrested is Grace Nduta Wairimu, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kanyenya-ini Ward in Murang’a. Her arrest followed the recovery of a Subaru Forester, believed to have been used in the staged abduction. The vehicle was found on Tuesday in Juja Township.

In a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the agency addressed widespread online claims suggesting Nduta had been kidnapped. The DCI clarified she had not been abducted but was taken into custody on May 29 as part of the ongoing probe.

“Contrary to reports circulating on social media, Grace Nduta was arrested in connection with the staged disappearance of Hon. Koimburi,” the DCI said. “Although she claimed to have spent May 25 in Kangema attending church services and rallies, evidence places her in Gatundu South at Ellis Bar and Restaurant with Koimburi for the entire night.”

The MP, who was later admitted to Karen Hospital in Nairobi, has reportedly refused to give a statement to investigators.

As the case develops, questions linger about the motive behind the alleged fabrication and its political implications. The DCI has committed to providing further updates as the investigation progresses.
