A wave of grief and shock has swept through Vatican Estate in Olkalou, Nyandarua County, following the chilling murder of a local woman under horrifying circumstances.
Maureen, a mother of three known for her humble boiled egg business in Olkalou town, was found brutally beheaded inside her home on a rainy night, in what appears to be a calculated attack. The assailant, whose identity remains unknown, is believed to have struck during a heavy downpour possibly using the harsh weather to cover their tracks and silence any cries for help.
A blood-stained knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered near the fence of her compound, further deepening the mystery.
Neighbors say they didn’t hear anything unusual amid the torrential rain. It was only after the storm eased that concern grew Maureen’s door was ajar, and a trail of blood led to the harrowing discovery of her lifeless body inside the house, lying in a pool of blood.
The brutal killing has sparked public outrage and renewed fears over women’s safety in the region. Betty Muchina, a Nyandarua-based human rights activist, condemned the act in strong terms.
“This isn’t just an isolated incident this is part of a dangerous pattern of violence against women in this county,” said Muchina. “We need urgent and meaningful action. The authorities must pursue justice swiftly and without compromise.”
Maureen’s death adds to a disturbing trend in Nyandarua, where a growing number of women have died in suspicious and unresolved circumstances. With frustration mounting over the lack of progress in past cases, pressure is now building on local authorities to deliver answers.
County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa and County Police Commander Stella Cherono have assured the public that a full investigation is underway. They are urging anyone with information that could assist in identifying the killer to come forward.
“This community deserves justice,” said Cherono. “And we will not rest until the person responsible is brought to book.”
